Sun Protection Technology

An extract of plankton is added which binds to the jellyfish sting sensor and blocks it. Thus it does not send a message to fire the sting. A mineral salt containing calcium is added. If the jellyfish sting sensor does send the message to fire, this mineral salt muddles the message. The result is no sting. The sun cream contains a mixture of sugar and protein which is similar to the substance found in the jellyfish bell. When the jellyfish encounters this, it thinks it is touching itself and does not fire a sting. The sun cream is designed to be water resistant and is quite slippery. This makes it difficult for the jellyfish to make contact with the skin.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENT BETWEEN THE ACTIVE AND MOUNTAIN SUN PROTECTION?

Active Sun Protection is ideal for travel and low altitude outdoor use. Each Lifesystems Active sun cream is waterproof, so can be worn in the sea without wearing out quickly. Aside from concerns about being burnt, being stung by jellyfish is one of the most painful experiences when spending time in the sea. Each Active sun cream has an anti-jellyfish formula built in.

Mountain Sun Protection is ideal for use at high altitude. Sunburn can occur very quickly at high altitude where UVA protection is very important. Our Mountain sun screens contain 5-star UV filters that protect the skin from harmful UVA rays. They are also sweat proof so will last longer during high levels of activity.

WHAT DOES ANTI-JELLYFISH FORMULA

Jellyfish stings are painful and can be lethal. We have worked with laboratories to create a formula which makes it much less likely that a jellyfish will fire its sting.
